According to the polls, Hungary’s Prime Minister could lose his majority on Sunday after 16 years in office.
Hungary’s Prime Minister, Viktor Orbán, could be unseated after 16 years in power. Few EU leaders would miss him – for years, he’s been the black sheep of Europe, blocking key decisions and support for Ukraine. Domestically, he’s led a brutal crackdown on the judiciary, the media and the rights of minorities. With elections in other EU countries on the horizon, this election is being seen as a litmus test for Europe. Will right-wing populism triumph – or is this the end of the “illiberal democracy” in the heart of Europe?
