With a rich history in coal mining, Cardiff has since evolved into a tech hub. As well as castles and being the birthplace of Roald Dahl, the Welsh capital has a bourgeoning technology sector in areas such as medicine, banking and climate solutions.

We’ll be introducing you to five of the companies you should be on the lookout for.

The word ‘Nisien’ comes from Welsh folklore. In the Mabinogion, one twin brother, Efnisien, spreads hate and conflict, while the other (Nisien) spreads peace and reconciliation. That’s what they want to emulate in online communities, by reducing online threats and encouraging respectful dialogue while protecting freedom of expression.

Niesen has only had one funding round, but has raised $1 million (around £740,000), according to PitchBook. Other sources say that the figure is undisclosed.

EyeDP

EyeDP uses AI to make document verification more efficient. It automates the processing, automation and validation of these documents in real-time. It can pick up fraud, errors and give you a summary of what’s in the document. On top of that, it has suggestions on how to improve it.

As a relatively young business, there have been no funding rounds for EyeDP yet, but watch this space.
