Protesters rallied in Sarajevo for a fourth consecutive day over a tram accident in which one person was killed and four others were injured.
The protesters are further demanding that any officials within the public transport service who were responsible for the crash must resign, and calling for the building of a modern, high-quality and safe public transport system.
Sarajevo Canton’s prime minister, Nihad Uk, has already resigned in response to protests at the weekend, causing the cantonal government to fall by doing so.
“The message from my fellow citizens, the message from young people, is important to me – certainly more important than my position. And when I have to choose between the voice and courage of young people on the one hand, and my position on the other, the choice is clear,” Uk said in his resignation letter.
The director of the cantonal public transport company, GRAS, Senad Mujagic, also resigned on Monday in response to the protests.
