Kurdish investigative reporter Rusen Takva says the repeated blocking of his social media accounts shows how court-ordered content restrictions are being used to curbing press freedom in Turkey.
By the time Rusen Takva’s main X social media account was blocked on February 20, 2025, he had built up an audience of nearly 70,000 followers reaching millions of views.
Reporting on corruption, smuggling, politics, and the Kurdish issue in Turkey’s east and southeast, his work relied heavily on digital platforms to reach the public.
That account block was only the beginning.
“I opened a second account after the first was blocked. It reached around 7,000 to 10,000 followers. That one was also shut down on October 18, 2025,” Takva told BIRN in an interview.
